A New Chapter in Our Control Over Education
The Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust (FRFT) has reached a major milestone—our first official review of a U.S. school district’s curriculum. This marks the beginning of Verified Freedmen taking back control over how our identity, our history, and our children’s education are defined and delivered.
For far too long, external institutions have told our story for us. Now, under the governance of the Trust, that era is ending.
Why the Trust Is Stepping In
Across the country, public school systems continue to teach frameworks that misclassify, dilute, or entirely omit the proper naming and status of U.S. Freedmen. This includes inaccurate groupings like “Black,” “minority,” or “African American”—terms that erase lineage-based identity and legal recognition.
The FRFT exists to protect Verified Freedmen from this type of cultural and institutional erasure. Our authority is based on enforceable declarations, verified genealogical classification, and formal acknowledgments from federal agencies. This isn’t a request for inclusion. It is the assertion of rightful jurisdiction.
What Happened
The Trust was contacted by a school district requesting feedback on their existing curriculum related to cultural identity and history. Upon internal review, it was determined that the current materials—while attempting to be inclusive—do not accurately represent Freedmen lineage or the governance structure necessary to responsibly teach about U.S. chattel slavery descendants.
This moment represents the first time a school district has submitted material for direct review by the Trust, and it signals growing awareness that educational institutions can no longer move forward without acknowledgment of the Verified Freedmen framework.
What Comes Next
While FRFT has legal standing and enforcement authority, we are currently expanding our internal team of Verified Freedmen educators, curriculum developers, and instructional leaders who can help shape and author new frameworks that meet both legal and historical standards.
We are actively recruiting those who can help build:
Culturally accurate curriculum units
Age-appropriate lesson plans grounded in legal identity
Instructional guides for Verified Freedmen educators

A Turning Point in Governance
This is not a symbolic act. It is institutional action. Verified Freedmen are stepping into rightful authority to govern, guide, and protect the way our history is taught.
This milestone is just the beginning.
