The Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust, American Freedmen Legal Fund, and Freedmen Nation are issuing this public advisory regarding Juneteenth-related listings appearing on Eventbrite.
Eventbrite is now communicating directly with Freedmen Nation, the Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust, and the American Freedmen Legal Fund concerning our formal notice, certified letter, and compliance report regarding Juneteenth activities on its platform.
Our concern is not ordinary community celebration. Our concern is the exploitation, commercialization, and distortion of Juneteenth through listings that use the holiday for party promotion, nightlife branding, vendor monetization, misleading cultural framing, Pan-African color substitution, or public event marketing that strips Juneteenth from its Freedmen historical context.
Juneteenth is not merely a federal holiday for commercial use. It is a historic emancipation commemoration rooted in the experience of the Freedmen population. Federal recognition does not erase the obligation to preserve the historical meaning of the holiday or prevent its misuse, misbranding, or cultural reclassification.
If you see an Eventbrite listing that appears to exploit Juneteenth, please report it directly to Eventbrite first. After reporting it to Eventbrite, please also send the listing to Freedmen Nation through our website so we can document it for our ongoing compliance record.
Examples may include:
Events using Juneteenth mainly for party or nightlife promotion;
Yacht parties, club events, “weekend takeovers,” or alcohol-centered events using Juneteenth branding;
Vendor-fee events that appear to monetize Juneteenth without clear cultural purpose or community accountability;
Listings that replace or overwhelm Juneteenth’s historical Freedmen context with Pan-African colors, Pan-African branding, or unrelated cultural symbolism;
Listings that use “freedom,” “liberation,” “emancipation,” “40 acres,” or similar language in a misleading or commercial way;
Events that imply cultural authority, community benefit, or historical preservation without transparency;
Any listing that misrepresents, dilutes, or reclassifies the Freedmen historical connection to Juneteenth.
To submit the listing to Freedmen Nation after reporting it to Eventbrite, go to:
Please include:
The full Eventbrite event URL;
The event title;
Screenshots, if available;
Confirmation that you reported the listing to Eventbrite;
A short explanation of why the listing appears to exploit, misbrand, reclassify, or misrepresent Juneteenth.
Freedmen Nation will review submissions and may include qualifying listings in a formal Eventbrite Juneteenth Listing Violation Packet for continued communication with Eventbrite.
This is not an effort to stop legitimate Juneteenth commemoration. This is an effort to stop the commercial exploitation, cultural reclassification, and historical distortion of a Freedmen emancipation holiday.
The Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust and American Freedmen Legal Fund will continue documenting, reporting, and challenging listings that misuse Juneteenth while ignoring the historical and cultural rights of Verified Freedmen.
This enforcement work will require many hours of review, documentation, reporting, follow-up, and formal compliance preparation. Donations help support the time and administrative work needed to protect Verified Freedmen interests and preserve the historical meaning of Juneteenth.
