New Declaration: Freedmen Veterans Officially Recognized Under Trust Law

The Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust (FRFT) has issued a powerful new declaration officially recognizing Verified Freedmen Military Veterans as a protected legal and cultural class under Trust Law.

This Declaration of Status-Based Military Veteran Recognition & Oversight formally establishes the Trust’s exclusive jurisdiction over all Freedmen-related veteran representation, identity, and reparative frameworks.

Why This Matters

Freedmen who served in the U.S. Armed Forces have endured generations of injustice:

  • Exclusion from full GI Bill benefits,

  • Denial of housing assistance and military pensions,

  • Erasure from veteran programs and commemorations due to race-based policies.

Despite their honorable service, these men and women were largely left out of the benefits they earned—because they were Freedmen.

This declaration changes the course of that legacy.

What the Declaration Does

  • Recognizes Freedmen Veterans as a distinct protected class under the Trust

  • Prevents unauthorized use of the “Freedmen Veteran” identity

  • Establishes licensing requirements for all Freedmen-focused veteran organizations

  • Enables legal enforcement against fraud or misuse

  • Authorizes the creation of a Freedmen Veteran Honor Roll and support funds

Who Is Covered

  • Honorably discharged veterans verified as Freedmen under Trust standards

  • Any branch of the U.S. Armed Forces, any era of service
