Freedmen Nation Declares Political Sovereignty to Protect Status and Secure Self-Governance

ree

The Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust has issued a formal Declaration of Political Sovereignty for Freedmen Nation, marking a historic moment in the modern movement for status-based justice and self-determination. This declaration affirms what has long been denied or overlooked: Verified Freedmen are a distinct political group—not a generic racial classification.

The declaration asserts that Freedmen Nation is not a campaign. It is not a cultural expression. It is a political identity rooted in historical fact and legal precedent, recognized through the formation of a Trust-based structure designed to protect and restore rights owed since Reconstruction.

The purpose of this declaration is threefold:

  1. To assert political separation from misapplied racial categories that have diluted or erased Freedmen identity in federal and state classifications.

  2. To affirm the sovereign governance structure of the Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust and its designated arms, including Freedmen Nation and the American Freedmen Legal Fund.

  3. To establish Freedmen Nation as a political, economic, and legal framework capable of receiving land, contracts, reparations, and formal recognition—whether from public or private institutions.

This sovereignty is not a break from American citizenship. It is a rightful and necessary expression of political distinction under the Constitution—anchored in the unique history of the American Freedmen, whose status was defined by emancipation and Reconstruction-era legislation, not skin color.

Freedmen Nation’s sovereignty protects:

  • The exclusive rights of Verified Freedmen to speak for their own interests;

  • The right to determine internal leadership, independent of public elections;

  • The authority to define its own identity, symbols, and laws within the framework of trust governance.

This declaration sends a clear and urgent message:

No government, nonprofit, or private group has the right to speak for Freedmen without verification or consent.

Freedmen Nation is now established and self-governing. Those seeking to ally must engage in good faith. Those seeking to co-opt will be met with resistance, legal clarity, and unwavering commitment to our political future.

We are not a race. We are a sovereign status.

We are not a cause. We are a people.

We are Freedmen.
