April 28, 2025 — The American Freedmen Legal Fund has officially submitted a formal letter and email to the NFL League Office and the Atlanta Falcons, calling for the immediate termination of Falcons Defensive Coordinator Jeff Ulbrich following a troubling breach of confidentiality during the 2025 NFL Draft process.
According to public statements, Jeff Ulbrich’s 21-year-old son, Jax Ulbrich, accessed confidential draft contact information for player Shedeur Sanders through an open iPad at Jeff Ulbrich’s home. Jax later used this sensitive information to make a prank call to Mr. Sanders during one of the most pivotal moments of his athletic career.
The prank involved impersonating the New Orleans Saints’ General Manager, falsely leading Sanders to believe he had been drafted — only to then mockingly tell him he would have to wait longer. The incident was publicly humiliating, disruptive, and damaging to the integrity of the NFL Draft process.
While the Falcons have since issued an apology and acknowledged the breach, they also attempted to minimize the seriousness of the event by asserting that Jeff Ulbrich was “unaware” of his son’s actions. However, this explanation is insufficient.
iPads and draft-related devices are password-protected, confidential tools that should never be left accessible to unauthorized individuals. The mere fact that this information was accessed so easily points to a gross failure of professional duty and basic security protocols on the part of Jeff Ulbrich.
The American Freedmen Legal Fund has formally recommended that the NFL and Atlanta Falcons take immediate action by terminating Jeff Ulbrich’s employment.
This case is not just about a prank. It’s about protecting player dignity, securing confidential information, and maintaining the credibility of the NFL Draft process. No prospect — especially one already carrying the pressures of living up to a historic name like Sanders — should be subjected to mockery or emotional distress because of the league’s internal carelessness.
The American Freedmen Legal Fund has demanded a formal written response within fifteen (15) business days and will continue monitoring the situation closely.
Accountability matters. Trust matters. The players matter.
