Frisco ISD Responds to AFLF Safety Accountability Report

The American Freedmen Legal Fund has now released our Compliance and Safety Accountability Report regarding the Frisco ISD track meet incident involving Karmelo Anthony and Austin Metcalf.

This report was not written to relitigate the criminal case. It was written to address a separate public concern: whether Frisco ISD had proper event control, safety procedures, supervision, emergency planning, and accountability measures in place during a school-sponsored athletic event where two young lives were permanently changed.

Frisco ISD has now responded to our report.

In its response, Frisco ISD stated that it appreciates the feedback and will make the report available to its Security Department and Emergency Management team. The District also stated that many of the specific questions raised in our report may need to be handled through the Texas Public Information Act process because the District does not create new information, perform legal research, or answer written questions through that process.

We are now working on the next step they directed us toward: completing the public information request process so existing records can be reviewed.

AFLF is seeking the full picture. That includes available records related to event safety, security planning, emergency management, supervision, athlete movement, weather response, tent-area control, post-incident changes, and any available video or documentation connected to the track meet.

This remains a safety and accountability issue.

A criminal conviction does not erase the responsibility of a school district to review what happened at a district-sponsored event. Families, students, and the public deserve to know whether proper safeguards existed, whether they failed, and what has changed since.

We will continue working through proper channels, preserving records, and pushing for transparency.

Two young lives were ruined. The public deserves more than silence.
