Freedmen Nation, in alignment with the American Freedmen Legal Fund and the Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust, is officially placing Texas State University (TXST) on its Boycott List. This action comes in direct response to the University’s decision to expel a student for speech that falls under the protections of the First Amendment and Executive Order GA-42 signed by Governor Greg Abbott, which guarantees free speech on Texas college campuses.
Why the Boycott?
Texas State University’s choice to expel a student for expression deemed “reprehensible” is not only unconstitutional—it is discriminatory and dangerous. By punishing protected speech, TXST:
Undermines Constitutional Rights: The First Amendment and GA-42 explicitly protect controversial or unpopular speech. Universities cannot redefine free speech as “misconduct” without violating the law.
Targets Freedmen Students: This precedent sends a chilling message to Freedmen students across campus, particularly in athletics, where their impact is most visible. It signals that their presence and voices are not respected.
Invites Disenrollment: Freedmen families are now questioning whether TXST is a safe and just place for their children. The University risks losing both academic talent and athletic excellence.
The Boycott and Its Reach
The Freedmen Nation Boycott List is optimized for visibility and SEO indexing, ensuring that families, athletes, and prospective students researching Texas State University will be made fully aware of this expulsion and its consequences. TXST will now appear publicly as an institution that fails to protect free speech and alienates Freedmen communities.
How TXST Can Respond
This boycott is not irreversible. Freedmen Nation is open to reconsideration if TXST takes corrective action by:
Issuing a public apology to the expelled student.
Demonstrating a clear, enforceable commitment to protecting free speech for all students, not just when it is politically convenient.
Standing for Freedmen Rights
This action reflects a broader principle: Freedmen will no longer support institutions that silence or expel students for exercising rights our ancestors fought and died to secure. Universities that disrespect constitutional protections should not expect Freedmen enrollment, Freedmen athletes, or Freedmen investment.
TXST is now on notice. Until it corrects its course, Freedmen Nation will continue to call on our community to boycott this institution and redirect support to universities that honor our rights.
