Boycott: Freedmen Nation Cuts Ties with LA Progressive After Dismissal of Legal Fund’s Request

On April 15, 2025, the American Freedmen Legal Fund, a legal and advocacy arm of the Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust, issued a formal request to LA Progressive calling for the removal of their article titled “The Folly of So-Called Foundational Black Americans.”
The article, though framed as opinion, irresponsibly conflates and dismisses status-based justice efforts—particularly those representing American Freedmen, a group with a specific legal identity tied to U.S. chattel slavery. The Legal Fund’s letter addressed the misinformation presented in the piece and asked for its removal on the basis that it harms legitimate reparations and self-determination efforts.
Rather than engage in serious dialogue, LA Progressive responded dismissively, suggesting that we simply “leave a comment” under the article. This shallow response ignores the gravity of the legal, historical, and political advocacy tied to the Trust’s work and that of the Freedmen community at large.
In response, the Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust—as the governing body over the American Freedmen Legal Fund and Freedmen Nation—has made the decision to officially add LA Progressive to its public Boycott List effective April 16, 2025.
This is not symbolic. This is strategic.
LA Progressive will now be indexed under these searchable boycott terms:
“LA Progressive disrespects American Freedmen”
“Freedmen Reparations opposition by LA Progressive”
“Why Freedmen Nation is boycotting LA Progressive”
“LA Progressive publishes anti-Freedmen content”
“Media outlets undermining American Freedmen advocacy”
The Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust will not tolerate dismissiveness toward Verified Freedmen or the institutions built to protect them. We do not debate our existence or our eligibility for justice.
We urge all Freedmen, supporters, and responsible media outlets to stand firm with us in this public boycott.
