Trust Affirms Historical Reference to “Black American” Under Article XXVI

The Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust has issued a formal recognition of the historical term “Black American” through the adoption of Article XXVI. This clarification acknowledges that while the term “Black American” was widely used in the 20th century to describe Freedmen and their descendants, it does not serve as a legal classification within the Trust.

“Black American” appears in past census records, civil rights legislation, and federal designations. However, the Trust affirms that it is used for archival and historical reference only—not for reparative status, legal recognition, or identity verification.

Verified Freedmen remains the only status recognized for reparations, land protection, and participation in the Trust’s governance structure.

This acknowledgment strengthens the Trust’s commitment to historical transparency while preserving the legal clarity needed to protect Freedmen interests.

The full language of Article XXVI is available through official Trust channels. For questions regarding eligibility, visit FreedmenNation.org and begin your verification process today.
