At Freedmen Nation, transparency and education are core to everything we do. To help our community and the public understand how the Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust (FRFT) operates, we’ve released an updated Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) Sheet as of May 2025. Here’s a high-level breakdown of what the Trust is, how it works, and why it matters.
🔐 What Is the FRFT and Who Qualifies?
The FRFT is a private, irrevocable legal trust created to provide economic reparations, land access, and financial empowerment for Verified Freedmen—individuals whose ancestry traces back to U.S. chattel slavery. Importantly, this is not a race-based program. Instead, it is status-based, requiring genealogical documentation to verify a historical connection to U.S. slavery.
Verification is free. No donations, payments, or service obligations are required to qualify or participate.
💵 Where Does the Money Come From?
The FRFT does not rely on government funding. Instead, it builds capital through:
Licensing agreements
Civil litigation recoveries
Land acquisition and economic zones
Trust-owned credit systems
Private donations
Projected payouts range from $405/month to $688/month, depending on the size of the fund and the total number of Verified Freedmen.
🛡️ Can the Trust Be Taken Away or Shut Down?
Absolutely not. The FRFT is structured under private trust law, not government control or political whim. It is legally binding and irrevocable, created specifically to outlast shifting political climates. Its multi-layered governance system includes:
A Board of Financial Oversight
A Community Advisory Council
Legal and Compliance Officers
Trustees with fiduciary duties
And as the Trust scales, member representation will grow through democratic channels.
❓ What Makes This Different?
The Trust is not a charity, nonprofit, or church, nor is it a pyramid scheme or GoFundMe. It’s a sovereign legal instrument of economic justice created because the federal government failed for over 150 years to deliver what was promised. The Trust does not replace the fight for federal reparations—it exists because that fight has been stalled.
This Trust is built on the principle of autarky—the ability to self-govern, self-fund, and self-protect our future.
