Karmelo Anthony Legal Case and Misinformation

The American Freedmen Legal Fund is issuing this public announcement to clarify the ongoing legal situation regarding Karmelo Anthony and address the wave of disinformation, harassment, and racially charged commentary surrounding his case.

Karmelo Anthony is a 17-year-old minor who is currently navigating the justice system. He has not been convicted of any crime. He is entitled to legal representation, the presumption of innocence, and due process—rights afforded to all under the Constitution.

We make the following clear:

  1. No funds from the GiveSendGo campaign have been accessed. The donations raised remain in a restricted account pending platform compliance and have not been used by the family.

  2. Karmelo Anthony’s family acquired their home and vehicle prior to his arrest. These are not tied to any legal defense campaign, and efforts to suggest otherwise are false and defamatory.

  3. Online attacks, threats, and calls for vigilante justice endanger Karmelo’s right to a fair trial and the safety of his family. These tactics are not about accountability—they are about incitement.

  4. Support for a minor receiving a fair trial is not a crime. It is a core principle of American justice. Standing with due process does not mean excusing violence or dismissing the tragic loss of life.

We call on all media, commentators, and institutions to report responsibly and refrain from contributing to dangerous misinformation. Justice cannot exist in a climate of mob outrage and racial distortion.
