FRFT Moves to Reclaim the Freedman’s Bank

On March 6, 2025, the Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust (FRFT) submitted a formal letter to the U.S. Treasury requesting the transfer of custodial authority over the historic Freedman’s Savings Bank into the Trust. After receiving no confirmation, a federal FOIA request (Case No. 2025-FOIA-02494) was submitted on July 9 to determine whether Treasury received our request—and whether any third-party entities have attempted to interfere or co-opt the transfer.

On August 1, 2025, the U.S. Treasury officially acknowledged our FOIA. The process is now active.

The Trust is moving forward with legal, fiduciary, and symbolic enforcement to bring the Freedman’s Bank under rightful custodianship.

This is not about symbolism. It’s about legal control.
