First Legal Victory: Eventbrite Removes Unauthorized “Juneteenth Jouvert” Listing

The Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust has officially secured its first legal takedown victory in defense of Juneteenth’s protected status as a commemorative holiday belonging to Freedmen—the U.S. chattel slaves freed under General Order No. 3 and the 13th Amendment.

❌ The Violation: “Juneteenth Jouvert”

The event in question was titled “Juneteenth Jouvert”, originally published on Eventbrite as a Caribbean-style party using the Juneteenth name, detached from its historically accurate purpose. The event included inappropriate imagery and commercial promotions that misrepresented Juneteenth, reducing it to a party theme.

The use of Pan-African colors and “Jouvert” branding, paired with Freedmen history, constituted a serious violation of the Trust’s published declarations and cultural enforcement standards.

🛡️ The Trust’s Action

A formal Cease and Desist notice was sent to Eventbrite’s Trust & Safety Team, along with the following declarations:

These legal documents establish the Trust’s sole authority over Juneteenth certification, licensing, and usage as a cultural asset tied specifically to Freedmen identity and emancipation.

✅ The Outcome: Takedown Confirmed

Eventbrite responded in writing, confirming that they had removed the infringing Juneteenth content and branding from the listing. The event is now publicly listed only as:

Jouvert

In their response, Eventbrite acknowledged our position and affirmed that they would continue to monitor cultural and trademark misuse brought to their attention by our organization.

After a careful review, we have removed the infringing content from the event listing(s). We appreciate you bringing this to our attention.”

🧾 Why This Matters

This outcome sets a powerful legal precedent. It is confirmation that our cultural enforcement declarations are legally valid and enforceable, even across third-party platforms.

It also sends a clear message to organizers:

If you use “Juneteenth” without proper Freedmen certification, you will be subject to takedowns, legal action, and public accountability.

🔒 Protecting Juneteenth Moving Forward

Juneteenth is not a multicultural, Pan-African, or party-themed observance. It is a sacred commemorative holiday reserved for Freedmen and the emancipation struggle specific to their historical experience.

The Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust will continue its active surveillance of Juneteenth branding across platforms and issue takedowns wherever violations occur.

We encourage all event organizers, institutions, and platforms to:

  • Contact us for official certification.

  • Review our full policy declarations.

  • Cease any unauthorized use of the Juneteenth name, imagery, or symbolism immediately.

🏛️ Enforcement Is Just Beginning

This is only the first of many. With our Trust governance, legal declarations, and dedicated community support, we are restoring full cultural control of Juneteenth to those it rightfully belongs to:

The Freedmen.
