The Genealogy Department of the Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust (FRFT) has formally launched its Certification Program for Verified Freedmen. This is a structured, adult learning program designed to build professional-grade genealogical skills for internal institutional deployment and community verification assistance.
Institutional Certification Overview
This is not a hobbyist workshop or casual interest group. This is an official 600 credit-minute hour self-paced certification program governed directly under the Trust. It was developed to uphold cultural governance, institutional documentation accuracy, and the rightful protection of Freedmen status through historical records recovery.
This training is free of charge and open only to individuals who have already completed Step #1 and Step #2 of the Trust’s verification process.
What You Will Learn
Trainees will be equipped to:
Locate and analyze 1860, 1870, and 1880 Census records
Evaluate Freedmen’s Bureau records, slave schedules, and vital records
Spot and correct misclassification across multiple record types
Assess family trees for compliance with Trust documentation standards
Utilize the official Self-Help Genealogy Tools resource to guide verification efforts
All certified work is tied to internal tracking, Trust review, and institutional use cases. Your work may be assigned to assist others who need help proving their Freedmen status.
Serve the Growing Demand
The Freedmen Nation has a growing pipeline of Pending Members who are awaiting assistance to complete their genealogy documentation. Certified Genealogists will be essential in helping these individuals finalize their records and confirm their status.
This is more than volunteer work—it’s a sustainable business opportunity. As a Certified Genealogist under the Trust, you will:
Launch your own independent service
Be eligible for contract assignments from the Trust
Work with Verified and Pending Members across the country
Be paid for accurate, timely, and culturally governed assistance
Remain in high demand for years to come
Departmental Access and Institutional Role
Certified individuals will join the official Genealogy Department and be eligible to:
Support verification workflows under institutional governance
Contract with the Trust for internal assignments and projects
Assist in identity protection, documentation review, and family record construction
Gain priority access to tools, updates, and assignments from the Trust
You are not just helping one person—you are helping a nation connect its records and protect its rights.
