A Follow-Up on the American Freedmen Legal Fund’s Ongoing Advocacy

The American Freedmen Legal Fund continues to demonstrate why Verified Freedmen place their trust in the Freedmen Reparations Fund Trust and its governance framework. This week, two major advocacy outcomes were achieved on behalf of beneficiaries under the authority of the Primary Trustee.

1. A Settlement Offer Successfully Doubled

One of our Verified beneficiaries recently received an initial settlement offer. After reviewing the terms, the beneficiary—supported by the Primary Trustee—chose to decline the offer. A counterproposal was immediately drafted and submitted on her behalf.

As a result, the opposing party doubled their original offer.

This outcome underscores the value of FRFT’s structured governance and the American Freedmen Legal Fund’s ability to advocate, negotiate, and escalate when necessary.

And importantly:

She paid nothing out of pocket for this support.

2. Contract Breach Case Now Advancing Toward State-Level Remedies

In a separate matter, we assisted another Verified Freedmen beneficiary in addressing a contract breach. After submitting the necessary documentation and advocacy materials, the issue has now reached active discussions with the state regarding appropriate remedies.

This shift toward resolution shows what becomes possible when beneficiaries have documented standing, a recognized status, and structured advocacy behind them.

Why Verification Matters

These outcomes highlight the importance of the FRFT verification system:

  • Verified Freedmen fall under the Trust’s protective framework.

  • The American Freedmen Legal Fund can advocate on their behalf.

  • Remedies, corrections, and negotiated outcomes become achievable under the Trust’s authority.

Congratulations to Our Beneficiaries

We congratulate both beneficiaries for trusting the process and allowing the Trust to advocate on their behalf. Their results strengthen the growing record of effective advocacy under FRFT governance.

Our work continues — and these successes represent only the beginning.
